About Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway

The Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway is a 132.9-mile drive in Colorado. It carries three designations: National Scenic Byway, BLM Back Country Byway, and Colorado Scenic & Historic Byway. The route links a string of communities rather than running between two endpoints. Florissant, Cripple Creek, Victor and Goldfield sit along it, as do Cañon City, Florence, Lincoln Park, Brookside, Williamsburg and Park Center. At nearly 133 miles, it works well as a full-day outing, with time built in for stops in the towns along the way. Summer is the most comfortable season. A nearby weather station outside Cripple Creek, at about 9,200 feet, records typical July averages of 76°F for the high and 49°F for the low. Winter there is cold, with typical January highs of 34°F and lows of 14°F. Places to stretch your legs sit close to the road. Grouse Mountain Trail is a short hike just off the route, and Fourmile Creek offers canoeing a little under a mile away. For an overnight stop, Cripple Creek RV Park and Echo Canyon Campground both sit right along the byway.
