West Block is a climbing area in southwest Colorado on Bureau of Land Management land within the Tres Rios Field Office, about 3 miles from Durango. It sits right alongside two other climbing spots, Roadside Boulder and Big East Block, each about 0.1 mile away, so a single visit can easily take in all three. For comfortable climbing weather, late spring and early fall are the best bets. Typical averages from the Durango weather station show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, while July and August bring warmer days and the most wet days of the year. Beyond the neighboring blocks, the Log Chutes 1 Trail offers mountain biking about 0.6 mile away. Junction Creek Campground, roughly 1.8 miles off, is the closest place to camp, and Junction Creek itself is a paddling option about 3.6 miles from the area.
