Split Dome, also known as Split Rock, is a rock climbing area in Colorado's Pike and San Isabel National Forests, within the South Platte Ranger District. The land is managed by the Forest Service. The climbing area sits among several others in this corner of the forest. Jackson Creek Dome lies just 0.3 miles away, and The Taj Mahal and Jackson Creek are each about half a mile off. For an overnight base, Devils Head Campground is roughly 2.2 miles away. Seven routes make up the area, with five sport climbs and two trad routes. Grades run from 5.2 up to 5.10-, so there's something for climbers of varying experience. The Walker-Stull Route, a trad climb at 5.10-, and The Stroll, a sport route at 5.8, are two of the most notable options. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the Cheesman weather station, about 12 miles away and roughly 1,300 feet lower, show highs near 84°F in July and 76°F in September. Winter highs there hover around 44°F in December, with lows near 15°F.
