Shadyside is a 5.5-mile out-and-back hike in the Aspen Ranger District of Colorado's White River National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route climbs from about 9,244 feet to roughly 10,026 feet, a gain of about 750 feet, and is rated moderate. The trail is open year-round, and the surface is natural. Bikes and horses are both allowed. For timing, summer is the most comfortable stretch, with typical July highs around 73°F and lows near 39°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station. October is cooler, with typical highs around 51°F. Nearby, Shadyside Cut starts about 0.4 miles away, and the Sunnyside hike is 0.7 miles off. Climbers can reach the West Side - Lower Buttress and East Face areas within about a mile and a quarter.
