Triton Tower is a climbing area in California's Cleveland National Forest, within the Descanso Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the tower sits among several other climbing areas, including The Wedge, Center/Headwall and Left Wall, all about 0.1 mile away. The climbing here is sport and trad, with a few mixed routes. Six routes are listed, ranging from 5.10a to 5.12c. The most notable is Triton Tower itself, a 5.11a sport route with a first ascent by Brian Spiewak. Pockets of Resistance, a 5.12c sport route, is the hardest of the bunch. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Alpine run from highs around 71°F in April to 78°F in October, while July and August average in the upper 80s. That station sits about 780 feet lower than the tower, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. For a longer outing, the El Cajon Mountain Summit Trail is about 1.9 miles away, and the San Diego River offers paddling about 4.6 miles off.
