The Max Boulder is a climbing area in the Yuba River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with Emeralds, The about half a mile away and Camo Crag about 0.7 miles off. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Lake Spaulding weather station, at about 5,150 feet, show July and August highs around 82°F with lows in the upper 40s, while winter highs stay in the low to mid 40s. The Sierra Discovery Trail is about 1.4 miles away and the Spaulding Lake Trail about 2 miles off. North Fork campground is about 3 miles away, and paddlers can reach the North Fork North Fork American River about 4.3 miles from the area.
