Lower Dinosaur Rock - W. Face is an alpine climbing area on the west face of the Lower Dinosaur Rock formation in the Mountaintop Ranger District of San Bernardino National Forest, California. The Forest Service manages the surrounding land. The area sits about 9.4 miles from the Big Bear Lake weather station, whose typical averages run from highs near 46°F with lows around 24°F in winter to highs near 80°F in July. Spring and fall are milder, with May and October highs typically in the mid-60s. The station sits about 465 feet lower than the climbing area, so expect temperatures up high to run a bit cooler. Eight alpine routes cover the face, with grades ranging from 5.8 to 5.11c. Among them are Feast of the Stego's (5.8), Big Dog (5.10a) and Savage Puppy (5.11c). The Lower Dinosaur Rock - N. Face climbing area is just 0.1 mile away, and the Mill Peak Spur hike and Arrowbear Lake are both within about a mile.
