Hammer Dome is a climbing area in the Calaveras Ranger District, where the Forest Service manages land that crosses Eldorado National Forest and Stanislaus National Forest. The closest neighbors are Calaveras Dome and the North Face Apron, both about 0.3 miles away. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 81°F with lows near 56°F, and only about one wet day a month from June through September. That station sits roughly 800 feet lower than the dome, so expect temperatures up here to run cooler. For an overnight stay, White Azalea Campground is about 1.9 miles away and Mokelumne Campground about 2.5 miles. Paddlers can reach Blue Creek, about 4.2 miles off.
