Red Peak is a short, easy hike in the Pacific Ranger District of Eldorado National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 1.8 miles long and rises about 84 feet from a low point of 6,589 feet to a high of 6,655 feet, making it an out-and-back route with a gentle climb. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses, so it works well for riders. Bikes are not permitted. The route is open year-round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Tahoma weather station, at a similar elevation, show July highs around 77°F with lows near 46°F, while winter highs sit in the upper 30s. Loon Lake Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and Highland is about half a mile off. For an overnight stay, Tells Equestrian Campground is 0.8 mile away and Van Vleck Bunkhouse is about a mile away.
