Martis Peak is a moderate out-and-back hike in California's Tahoe National Forest, within the Truckee Ranger District. The route is about 7.8 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 1,929 feet, and it starts and ends at roughly 7,024 feet. The high point on the climb reaches 8,674 feet, and the steepest stretch comes around mile 3.7, where the grade reaches about 18 percent. The climb is front-loaded, so the most significant ascent happens early on. Plan for about 3.5 hours on the trail, and expect the return to mirror the climb, with the same amount of elevation loss. The Tahoe Rim Trail passes about half a mile away, and the North Ridge Trail is about 1.4 miles off. Lake Tahoe's North Shore is about 3.8 miles away, and Goose Meadows campground sits about 7.2 miles from the peak.
