Hoot Trail is a 3.1-mile out-and-back hike in Tahoe National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises about 366 feet from a low point of 3,403 feet to a high of 3,776 feet, and it is rated moderate. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically late spring and early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Nevada City weather station show May highs around 71°F and October highs around 71°F, with only a few wet days in each. That station sits nearly 1,000 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. Bikes are allowed on the natural-surface trail, and Harmony Trail, a mountain biking route, starts just 0.1 mile away. Rock Creek Nature is a hike about 0.4 mile off. Climbers can head to South Yuba River: Edward's Crossing, about 3.9 miles away, and paddlers to Greenhorn Creek, about 4.3 miles away.
