Coyote Lake Trail is a 4.2-mile moderate hike in California's Dinkey Lakes Wilderness, part of the High Sierra Ranger District of Sierra National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs steadily from a starting point near 8,850 feet to a high point of 9,604 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 1,909 feet over the round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 3.3 miles, where the grade reaches 19 percent. The route is a steady climb, and the trail is managed by the Forest Service. Plan for about four hours on foot. The trailhead sits at the low end of the route, and the return covers the same ground. Ershim Lake Trail lies less than a mile away, and ERSHIM LAKE is about 1.2 miles off. For an overnight stay, Badger Flat and Badger Flats Group campgrounds are both within about 5 miles.
