Charity Valley is a hard, out-and-back hike of 13.4 miles in California's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, within the Carson Ranger District. The trail climbs from a low point of 5,758 feet to a high of 7,983 feet, and the Forest Service manages the land. The route is natural surfaced and allows horses and bikes. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the Dagget Pass weather station, about 20 miles away, show July highs around 75°F with lows near 49°F and only a couple of wet days a month. Winter is cold, with January highs around 36°F and lows near 23°F. The trail is open from June 1 to October 15, and the trailhead is Charity Valley East. For overnight stays, Markleeville Campground is about 2.6 miles away and Silver Lake East- Eldorado about 3.8 miles. The Hot Springs Trail and Hot Springs Cutoff Trail both start within about a mile.
