Butler Mountain is a hard hike in the Ukonom Ranger District of Six Rivers National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 8.5 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 1,831 feet, and it follows a natural surface. The route is an out-and-back, starting at a low point of about 832 feet and reaching a high of about 2,678 feet. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Cecilville show May highs around 75°F and October highs around 70°F, while July and August average in the mid-90s. The trail is open to both horses and bikes. Nordheimer Main Campground is about 1.5 miles away, and Orleans Mountain is about 1.4 miles away. Cascade Falls and the Salmon River, a paddling route, are both within about 2 miles.
