Loon Lake Group Campground, managed by the Forest Service in the Pacific Ranger District of Eldorado National Forest, sits on the south shore of Loon Lake in California. The campsite's waterfront setting draws visitors for a range of activities, including boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and exploring off-road vehicle trails. Summer is the warmest stretch for a visit. Typical July highs reach about 77°F with lows near 46°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station at Tahoma. Winters there are cold, with typical January highs around 37°F and lows near 22°F. Vault toilets are the only listed amenity. A fee is charged for camping. Loon Lake Campground and the Loon Lake Equestrian Group lie about 0.1 mile away, and Orion Trail, a cross-country skiing route, is about 0.2 mile off. Paddlers can head to the Rubicon River, roughly 1.1 miles from the campground.
