Big Flat is a Forest Service campground in the Gasquet Ranger District of Six Rivers National Forest in northern California. The land is managed by the Forest Service, and the site is a simple base for overnight stays, with vault toilets as the only listed amenity. The most comfortable stretch for a visit runs from June through September, when typical averages from the nearby Klamath weather station show highs around 64 to 67°F and only two or three wet days a month. Winter is much wetter, with 16 to 18 wet days a month from December through March. That station sits about 750 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures at Big Flat run cooler. Several trails start close by. Old South Kelsey is just 0.1 mile away, and Redwood Flat and Old South Kelsey Spur D are both within about 2 miles. For time on the water, Dry Lake offers saltwater fishing about 4 miles off.
