Airport Flat Campground

Airport Flat Campground is a Forest Service campground in California's Eldorado National Forest, about 23 miles east of Placerville on Highway 50, then 24 miles north on Ice House Road (Forest Road 3) and 3 miles north on Forest Road 33. It is in the Pacific Ranger District, and the sites are arranged into pods to accommodate groups of 15 to 25 people. The nearest town is Placerville, and the camp sits along a route that follows Highway 50 into the forest. Summer is the most comfortable season to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Tahoma, about 14.5 miles away, run to highs around 77°F in July with lows near 46°F. That station sits roughly 900 feet lower than the camp, so temperatures at the camp run cooler. Several other outdoor spots are close by. Gerle Creek Trail and Gerle Creek campground are less than a mile away. The South Fork Rubicon River is about 1.9 miles off, and Loon Lake campground is about 2.7 miles away.
