Van Damme State Park

California

About

Van Damme State Park is a public ocean beach on the Mendocino coast of California, within the Mendocino Unit and about half a mile from the town of Little River. It's a straightforward beach stop, with restrooms and accessible access on site. Summer into early fall is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 65°F from July through September, with only a few wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the low 50s and frequent rain. A fee is charged, and dogs are allowed, so the beach works for visitors traveling with a pet. For more time outdoors, the Fern Canyon Scenic Trail starts just over a mile away, and the Mendocino Headlands Bluff Trail is about 2 miles off. Paddlers can head to the Albion River, roughly 8 miles away, or the South Fork Noyo River, about 10 miles out.
