Del Mar City Beach (17th Street)

Del Mar City Beach at 17th Street is a public ocean beach on the California coast, about half a mile from the center of Del Mar. It's a simple, well-equipped stretch of sand, with restrooms on site, lifeguards on duty and accessible access to the beach. Swimming is allowed here, and so are dogs, which makes it an easy pick for a mixed outing with a four-legged companion. A fee is charged, so plan for that before you arrive. Summer and early fall bring the warmest weather. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 80 to 82°F from July through September, with only about one wet day a month. Winter is milder and damper, with highs near 67°F. If you want to pair the beach with a short walk, Crest Canyon Trail is under a mile away, and West Ridge DAR, Dust Devil Trail and DAR Trail all sit within about 2 miles.
