Carbon Beach Access (East of Malibu Pier)

Carbon Beach Access (East of Malibu Pier) is a public ocean beach in California, inside Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and about 1.9 miles from Pepperdine University. Restrooms are available, and there is no fee to use the beach. Late summer and early fall are the warmest stretch. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Santa Monica Pier run near 70°F for highs in August and September, with rain rare from July through September. Winter is cooler and wetter, with highs in the low 60s. The Santa Monica Mountains rise just inland, with trail and climbing options a short drive away. The Piuma Trail and the Backbone Trail - Piuma Ridge Trail are both under 3 miles off. Climbers can head to Lower Boulders or Malibu Tunnel Boulders, about 3 miles away.
