Coconino Trail

The Coconino Trail is a short, moderate singletrack ride in Arizona's high desert, set within the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest. Managed by the Forest Service, the trail is a compact out-and-back route of about 0.7 miles, with a total elevation gain of 71 feet. It is a blue square trail, rated moderate, and its short length makes it an easy fit for a quick session or a warm-up ride. The trail's front-loaded climb begins within the first 0.2 miles, with the steepest stretch reaching about 7% grade. The high point sits at 4,431 feet, and the route returns to the low point of 4,344 feet. This format lets riders break the trail into sections and test their comfort with the terrain. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sedona show October highs around 79°F with lows near 51°F, while June and July average highs in the mid-90s. The trail sits close to several other destinations. The Coconino #172B and Coconino Spur #172C hikes are each about 0.1 mile away, and the Hermit mountain biking area is also within a tenth of a mile. Bell Rock / Courthouse Butte, a climbing area, is about 0.6 mile off.
