Grapevine Bay is a Forest Service campground in the Tonto Basin Ranger District of Tonto National Forest in central Arizona. It sits along the shoreline of the state's largest lake, in the Upper Sonoran Desert, where mesquite, cat-claw, desert broom, cholla and saguaro cacti grow. The Sierra Ancha Mountains rise in the distance, offering a dramatic backdrop. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show March highs around 74°F and October highs around 85°F, while July averages about 104°F. Flash floods are a risk in this area, so camp out of flood zones and watch the weather closely. When trash receptacles are available, use them. Otherwise, follow the Pack it in, Pack it out rule. Grapevine Group Campground is about half a mile away, and Schoolhouse Campground is roughly 2 miles off. The old Apache Trail is about 2.4 miles away, and Indian Point, a lake fishing spot, is about 8 miles away.
