FR 84 is a designated dispersed camping area on the Black Mesa Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in eastern Arizona. The Forest Service manages the land, and the site sits along a forest road rather than within a developed campground. This is a free camping area, which makes it pack-it-in, pack-it-out by design. The managing agency asks visitors to help keep it free by carrying everything out that they bring in. That makes it a practical base for a day of exploring the surrounding roads and trails without paying a fee. Summer is the warmest stretch. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 80 to 83°F from June through July, with lows in the mid-40s to mid-50s. Winters are cold, with January highs near 45°F and lows around 17°F. The Mogollon Rim Snowmobile B mountain biking trailhead is just 0.4 miles away, and the Carr Lake trail is 0.8 miles off. Forest Road 9354 and Fr 9350 Campground are both within about 2 miles.
