About Wenatchee National Forest

Wenatchee National Forest spans over 650,000 acres across central Washington, offering a mix of forested land and alpine terrain managed for multiple uses. The forest supports a broad range of outdoor activities: hikers and backpackers will find extensive trail networks, campers can use both developed campgrounds and dispersed camping throughout the forest, and anglers can access streams and lakes for fishing. Mountain biking, horseback riding, and scenic driving are all common here, and in winter, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing become viable depending on snow conditions at higher elevations.

Access is generally good from surrounding communities, though some roads and higher-elevation trails become snow-blocked or difficult in winter months. Summer and early fall are the prime seasons for most activities, when trails are clear and weather is stable. Spring and late fall can offer quieter conditions but require flexibility for variable mountain weather. Hunting seasons are available during designated periods. The forest's diverse elevation and exposure mean conditions can vary significantly across different areas, so checking current access and weather conditions before your visit is essential.
