Toiyabe National Forest

Toiyabe National Forest spans over a million acres across central Nevada, offering a diverse landscape of mixed forests, alpine terrain, and high desert. The forest provides opportunities for hiking, backpacking, and fishing in its numerous lakes and streams. Dispersed camping is available throughout the forest, and several scenic drives wind through the region, offering views of the terrain and seasonal wildflower displays.

Hunting is a significant recreational use in fall and winter months, with seasons for deer, elk, and upland game. The forest receives considerable snow at higher elevations during winter, which limits access on many roads and trails from December through March. Summer and early fall represent the primary recreation season, when most high-country trails and campsites are accessible and weather is stable. Late spring and early autumn can see variable conditions, with lingering snow at higher elevations in May and early season storms possible by October.
