About Teton National Forest
Teton National Forest spans over 201,000 acres in Wyoming and offers a mix of backcountry and accessible recreation across forest and meadow terrain. The forest supports hiking, backpacking, camping, and fishing throughout its network of trails and waterways, with both developed campgrounds and dispersed camping available. Hunters use the forest seasonally, and scenic driving routes provide access to viewpoints and trailheads.
Most trails and high-country passes open by early summer as snow melts; late spring and early fall offer good conditions, though weather can shift quickly at elevation. Winter closes many high trails and dispersed areas, though lower elevations may remain passable. Access is straightforward via Forest Service roads and maintained highways. Plan around season—summer brings reliable weather and full trail access, while fall offers fewer crowds and crisp conditions before snow returns.
