San Bernardino National Forest

San Bernardino National Forest spans over 342,000 acres across California and provides year-round access to a landscape of mixed coniferous forest and alpine terrain. The forest supports a full range of outdoor recreation: hiking and backpacking on maintained trails, dispersed camping throughout the forest, fishing in streams and lakes, scenic driving on forest roads, and hunting during designated seasons. Summer and early fall are the most popular visiting windows, when high-elevation areas are snow-free and daytime temperatures are moderate. Winter brings snow to higher elevations and can make some roads and higher trails inaccessible; spring runoff can affect stream crossings and lower-elevation access roads may experience weather delays. The Forest Service manages the land for multiple uses, so you will encounter both developed recreation areas and backcountry opportunities.
