Rita Blanca National Grassland

Rita Blanca National Grassland spans nearly 93,000 acres across the Texas Panhandle, offering wide-open rangeland managed by the Forest Service for multiple-use recreation. The landscape is rolling prairie dotted with draws and mesquite, typical of the high plains country in this corner of the state.

Visitors can explore the grassland by vehicle on scenic drives and primitive roads, hike or backpack across the open terrain, and camp in dispersed sites throughout the area. Fishing is available where water permits, and the grassland supports hunting seasons for game birds and mammals according to state regulations. Spring through fall offers the most comfortable visiting conditions, though the exposed terrain means weather can shift quickly and shade is minimal.
