Nicolet National Forest

Nicolet National Forest spans nearly 600,000 acres across northern Wisconsin, offering a mix of forest and water-based recreation across a working multi-use landscape. The forest supports fishing in lakes and streams, dispersed camping opportunities, and a network of trails for hiking and backpacking. Hunting is popular during relevant seasons, and scenic driving routes provide access to the forest's interior and water features.

Visitation is best from late spring through early fall, when trails are clear and weather is stable. Winter brings snow and cold that can limit access and require appropriate gear; summer months see the most activity and warmest conditions. As a National Forest managed by the U.S. Forest Service, much of the land is open to dispersed camping and recreation, though specific regulations and seasonal closures apply.
