About Comanche National Grassland

Comanche National Grassland spans 434,115 acres across southeastern Colorado, offering vast high-plains grassland scenery and diverse outdoor recreation opportunities. This USFS-managed landscape features rolling prairie, scattered pinyon-juniper woodlands, and dramatic canyon country that attracts hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking solitude. The grassland provides excellent opportunities for dispersed camping throughout its expansive terrain, with numerous pull-offs and primitive sites accessible via Forest Service roads. Visitors can explore scenic drives along backcountry routes, pursue fishing in small streams and stock tanks, and enjoy wildlife viewing for pronghorn antelope, mule deer, and raptors. The area also supports OHV recreation on designated roads and trails, mountain biking opportunities, and horseback riding across the open plains.
