About San Emigdio Mountains
The San Emigdio Mountains are a small, rugged mountain range located in the southern Sierra Nevada of central California. The range rises abruptly from the surrounding Tehachapi and San Joaquin Valleys, with steep, rocky slopes and deep canyons. Elevations range from around 3,000 feet in the foothills up to nearly 8,000 feet at the highest peaks. The terrain is predominately chaparral and pine-oak woodland, with some higher-elevation areas of pine and fir forest. The San Emigdio Mountains provide important habitat for a variety of wildlife including black bears, mountain lions, and the endangered California condor.
