Hardscrabble Mountains

The Hardscrabble Mountains are a small, rugged mountain range located in western New Mexico. Characterized by steep, rocky slopes and deep canyons, the range features a diverse high-desert landscape that transitions from pinyon-juniper woodlands at lower elevations to ponderosa pine and Douglas fir forests at higher elevations. The core of the range is dominated by jagged peaks and ridges carved from volcanic rock, interspersed with alpine meadows and cirque basins.
