About Kickapoo Adventures

Kickapoo Adventures operates unguided paddling trips on the Middle Fork River, Illinois' only National Scenic River. The upper section (5.5 miles from Kinney's Ford to Kennekuk County Park) features technical stretches with narrower passages and potential obstacles, recommended for paddlers with experience when water levels exceed three feet. The lower section runs from Kennekuk County or Bunker Hill access to the Kickapoo Adventures store, offering broader channels through forested valleys and towering cliffs with small riffle areas, suitable for beginners. A full-day option covers both sections for nearly 13.5 miles, departing by 10:00 am with a 5:00 pm return requirement. When Middle Fork levels drop, the operator shifts to the Salt Fork/Vermilion River for a relaxed 3-hour paddle featuring clear visibility and sandbars. All trips include paddles, PFDs, and shuttle transportation. The business also offers Introduction to Kayaking lessons on Clear Lake covering safety, equipment, and fundamental strokes, plus lake rentals and tubing on the Middle Fork.
