Gold Belt Tour offers two narrated audio driving tours through historic Phantom Canyon, a 30-mile gravel route following the original 1894 Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad grade. The Florence & Cañon City to Cripple Creek tour ascends nearly 4,000 feet through narrow canyon walls, hand-carved tunnels, and abandoned railroad stations, narrated by Brad Behan with stories of prospectors and railroad workers during the Cripple Creek Gold Rush. The reverse Cripple Creek to Florence & Cañon City tour descends the same route, revealing how ore-laden trains navigated these dangerous grades. Both tours include 7–8 audio files timed to landmarks, available for download or streaming with 90-day access. The byway itself spans 131 miles across five historic communities—Florissant, Cripple Creek, Victor, Cañon City, and Florence—designated as both a Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway and a National Scenic Byway, with over 42 attractions including Shelf Road rock climbing and Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument.
