Kartchner Caverns State Park offers four guided cave tours through a half-mile passage showcasing formations created by water over thousands of years. The Rotunda/Throne Tour (1.5 hours total, 50 minutes underground) features the discoverers' original 1974 trail, 45,000-year-old bat guano, and Kubla Khan, Arizona's largest column formation. The Big Room Tour (1 hour 45 minutes total, 1 hour underground), available October 15 to April 15, highlights the cavern's discovery story, colorful formations, living and ancient cave fauna, and ongoing scientific research. The Helmet & Headlamp Tour (1 hour 15 minutes total, 1 hour underground) recreates the original 1974 discovery experience using only headlamp light; offered year-round on Saturdays except the third Saturday of each month. The Photo Tour (2 hours, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) runs every third Saturday for underground photography, with images restricted to personal use.
