Portlock

Tucked into Port Chatham bay on the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula, Portlock is an Alaskan ghost town roughly 16 miles south of Seldovia. The settlement takes its name from British navigator Nathaniel Portlock, and in the early 1900s it operated as a working cannery community before eventually being abandoned.

Visitors today arrive at a remote coastal site where the cannery era has long since faded. Access to this part of the Kenai Peninsula is not straightforward, and anyone making the trip should plan accordingly — expect a rugged, isolated setting rather than developed facilities or marked trails.
