About Luper

Luper is a ghost town in Lane County, Oregon, situated near Meadowview Road between Oregon Route 99W and Prairie Road, roughly 3.8 miles south of Junction City. It began as a station stop on the Oregon and California Railroad serving the corridor between Junction City and Eugene, and took its name from James N. Luper, a pioneer of Illinois birth who came into the world in 1852.

For visitors today, the most tangible remnant is the Luper Cemetery. When the Oregon Genealogical Society surveyed it in 1970, they recorded 118 grave sites, making it a modest but meaningful window into the area's early settlement history. Little else marks the former community on the landscape.
