Leighton

Leighton is a ghost town in Oconto County, Wisconsin, now part of the area known as Stiles Junction. Its origins trace to the John Leigh family, who put down roots along the Little River in the late 1860s and ran a small sawmill there through the 1880s. The settlement took its name from that founding family.

The community's identity shifted around 1882 when the railroad arrived and its station name — Stiles Junction — gradually replaced the original Leighton designation in common use, a pattern typical of many small Wisconsin settlements of that era.

Visitors today will find little physical evidence of the former community. The appeal is largely historical curiosity and the quiet rural setting along the Little River. Access is by road, and the site is most approachable in the warmer months.
