Harker

Harker is a ghost town in Collier County, Florida, tucked into a flat, swampy stretch of the southern interior. It sits roughly 25 miles east of Bonita Springs and about 5 miles southeast of Immokalee, placing it squarely in one of the more remote corners of the state.

On most maps, Harker appears along State Road 29, sandwiched between West Main Street to the north and Oil Well Road to the south. The surrounding landscape frames the community on two sides: Summerland Swamp lies to the west, while the Okaloacoochee Slough stretches to the east.

Visitors should arrive with modest expectations. Harker is an unincorporated, long-abandoned settlement, and the natural environment — dense wetlands and slough habitat — defines the experience far more than any built remains. State Road 29 provides the primary access route, and the area's wildlife and scenery offer the main draw for anyone making the detour.
