About Fox
Fox is a ghost town in Carbon County, Montana, with roots in the coal industry. The community took its name from Dr. J.M. Fox, who served as the first manager of both the Rocky Fork Coal Company and the Rocky Fork & Cooke City Railroad — two enterprises that gave the settlement its reason for existing.
Visitors today will find little more than a remote, sparsely marked location. As with most ghost towns of this character, the built environment has largely disappeared, and the draw is the sense of history and the surrounding Montana landscape rather than standing structures or formal amenities.
