About Douglas

Douglas is a long-abandoned settlement in eastern Smith County, Texas, situated along what was once the Jamestown-Tyler road. By 1936, the community had shrunk to a single dwelling alongside four buildings that served as a school for Black students, a cemetery, and surrounding farmland. The school was eventually absorbed into the Arp Independent School District, and by the 1970s Douglas had effectively ceased to exist as a functioning community.

Visitors today will find little more than a quiet rural landscape. The cemetery may be the most tangible remnant of the town's past. This is a place for those drawn to Texas history and the stories of small, faded communities rather than developed recreation.
