About Carson
Once a small community situated along Missouri Route ZZ and the adjacent railroad, Carson now stands as a ghost town in Howell County, southern Missouri, roughly two miles southeast of West Plains. Nothing in the historical record points to a particular industry or defining event — it was simply a local settlement that, over time, ceased to exist.
Visitors today will find little more than the rural roadside setting along Route ZZ. As with most extinct towns of this scale, physical remnants are sparse or absent, and the surrounding landscape has largely reclaimed the site. It makes for a quiet stop for those with an interest in Missouri's forgotten communities, but expectations should be modest.
