About Brookfield
Brookfield is a ghost town along the Columbia River in Wahkiakum County, Washington, with roots in the salmon-canning and fishing industry. The settlement operated from 1873 to 1957 and was notably home to the J.G. Megler Company during its working years.
Today Brookfield exists as a historic curiosity on the Columbia River shoreline. Visitors drawn to remnants of Washington's commercial fishing heritage will find this a quiet, atmospheric stop, though the sparse remains reflect decades of abandonment since operations ceased in the mid-twentieth century.
