Boundary

Boundary is a ghost town in Stevens County, Washington, situated close to both the Canada–US border and the Columbia River. Its roots lie in the railroad industry — workers established a camp here, and during the 1890s the settlement grew into a genuine town with roughly 900 residents, a hotel, a post office, and a general store.

The town's end came swiftly once railroad construction wrapped up. After a bridge finally crossed the Pend Oreille River, the workforce dispersed and Boundary was effectively abandoned, left as one of Washington's quieter historical footnotes.

Visitors today are drawn more by curiosity and the dramatic border-country setting than by any extensive preserved ruins. Photography and sightseeing are the realistic draws for those who make the trip out.
