About Berwind
Berwind is a former mining town tucked into Berwind Canyon in Las Animas County, Colorado. It sits about 3.1 miles southwest of Ludlow and roughly 15 miles northwest of Trinidad, placing it in a relatively remote canyon setting.
Visitors drawn to ghost towns will find a place defined more by its historical character and canyon surroundings than by extensive preserved structures. As with most sites of this type, what remains on the ground is modest, and the experience centers on the atmosphere of a once-active mining community that has largely faded into the landscape.
