Sullivan Bridge is a Bureau of Land Management river access site on the headwaters of the Marias River in Glacier County, Montana, about 6 miles from the town of Shields Crossing. The Marias River begins here at the confluence of the Two Medicine River and Cut Bank Creek, and the access sits at the edge of this confluence, where gravel road access meets sheer cliffs and riparian vegetation. The river flows southeast from this point, and the Tiber Dam downstream forms Lake Elwell. About 50 miles beyond the dam, the Teton River joins the Marias before the river enters the Missouri River at Loma. The Marias was named in 1804 by Meriwether Lewis for his cousin, Maria Wood. There are no fees to use the Sullivan Bridge launch site, and it is not reservable. The other BLM river access sites in the area are Pugsley Bridge Recreation Area and Moffat Bridge Recreation Area, with Moffat Bridge just 0.1 mile away. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Cut Bank show July and August highs around 80°F with lows near 50°F, while winter highs stay around freezing.
