Thorny Creek Mountain

West Virginia

About

Thorny Creek Mountain is a summit in the Marlinton Ranger District of Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia, about 6 miles from the town of Cass. Late summer into early fall is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical September averages at a nearby weather station run to highs around 73°F and lows near 48°F, with fewer wet days than any other month. That station sits about 530 feet below the mountain, so temperatures on the summit run cooler. Several trails start close by. Black Oak Trail is just 0.2 miles away, Fire Tower Trail is 0.6 miles, and Thorny Creek Trail is under a mile. For an overnight base, Day Run Campground lies about 10 miles off.
