Woods Ferry River Access
About
Woods Ferry River Access is a hand launch for canoes and kayaks in Gauley River National Recreation Area, managed by the National Park Service in West Virginia. The nearest town is Hico, about 6 miles away. Paddlers carry their boats to the water here rather than backing a trailer in, so the access suits canoes, kayaks and other craft light enough to move by hand. For the most comfortable conditions, late spring through early fall is the time to plan a trip. Typical averages from the nearby Summersville Lake weather station run from highs around 72°F in May to about 75°F in September, with July highs near 81°F. Climbers can head to Carnifex Ferry, about 4 miles off, and hikers have the Patterson Trail and Old Ferry Road Trail at a similar distance.
