About Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway

The Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway is a 117.4-mile route across upstate South Carolina, designated both a National Scenic Byway and a South Carolina State Scenic Byway. It strings together a series of small communities, including Chesnee, Fingerville, Campobello, Salem, Tamassee, Walhalla, West Union, South Union and Chickasaw Point. That makes it easy to break the drive into shorter segments or plan stops along the way. Fall is a comfortable time to make the trip. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show October highs around 72°F with lows near 46°F, and October and November average the fewest wet days of the year. The byway passes close to plenty of outdoor options. The Wildcat Wayside Nature Trail and the JFA Trail sit about 0.1 mile from the route. Raven Rock Trail is about 0.3 mile away, and paddlers can reach the North Saluda River at roughly the same distance.
