Hunting Island State Park: Parking South Beach

South Beach is the southern parking area and public ocean beach at Hunting Island State Park, managed by the S.C. Dept. of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. The nearest town is Harbor Island, about 3 miles away. This is an ocean beach with parking, restrooms and lifeguards. A fee is charged. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Edisto Beach State Park run from highs around 73°F in April to about 77°F in October, while July and August average highs near 89°F. The park's trails start close by. The Magnolia Forest Trail is about 0.6 mile away, and the Marsh Boardwalk Crossover Trail is about 1.3 miles off. A little farther, at roughly 1.7 miles, are the Lagoon Trail and the Maritime Forest Trail.
